Lets Study so-as-to Show ourselves approved
( 2 Timothy 2:15 )

The following brief study of Genesis 1:1 & 2 are of my personal research and opinion.
You are challenged to not take "my" word for what I believe to be the Truth but to do your own research.

Before we get started with our little "in a nutshell" look at Genesis 1:1 & 2, we need to have an understanding of a few important words used in this short study, pulled from the original language/manuscripts. We should not just rely on the "English" language translation, a language that did not even exist until thousands of years after God spoke these words.

It will also help to know that there were "things" God had closed up and sealed until the "time of the end" Daniel 12:4 & 9. Those times spoken of are now upon us. To know that we are now in the "time of the end" research "the generation of the figtree", Jesus said LEARN IT. It began in 1948.

If you are of the mind that wonders why some seem to be teaching and preaching things of the bible that are "new" to you, different than what you were taught then the answer as-to why, and why now, and at this time may be found in a study of   Daniel 12.

Below we will review a few important words for this short study:

From an unused root (meaning to be empty); a vacuity, that is, (superficially) an undistinguishable ruin: - emptiness, void.

 From an unused root meaning to lie waste; a desolation (of surface), that is, desert; figuratively a worthless thing;
adverbially in vain: - confusion, empty place, without form, nothing, (thing of) nought, vain, vanity, waste, wilderness.

without form of formless - also of the same root as vain H18414

"In the beginning" in a nutshell.

Genesis, chp 1, verse 1.
God created the heaven and the earth. Period,
that's it. Nothing else, and there is "no" implied" time reference either, it was just a very long time ago.

And now verse 2 (in part)

KJV: And the earth was without form, and void;
Torah: Now the earth was unformed and void,

Without form and void, this could indeed be one of the most misunderstood verses in the Bible. Sadly few even know that it is in-fact a misunderstood verse. Most take this verse verbatim, as it is written, in English, and without question. Not knowing what this passage is actually saying is indeed a big stumbling block to knowing the "Truth" and having a correct understanding of God's Word, in-fact it could even be said that by not understanding this one verse could even weaken ones foundational understanding of the Bible itself and it all stems from that one little word that precedes "Without form and void", it is the word "was"

In verse 2, one would "assume" that this creation of the earth, was created "formless & void", however that is NOT what the scriptures tell us. When we take the verse back to it's original language/manuscripts we will discover a few interesting things.

It is NOT God telling us that He created the earth without form and void in verse 2 of Genesis 1, it is us reading that "the earth was without form, and void; however a deeper study with eyes to see and ears to hear will clear up the
confusion as a result of our "other" language translations of the bibles.
- This will get less confusing.

As a point of reference, this is verse 2 in the original, Hebrew tongue: Note: it reads from Right to Left

2.) And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

We gain a deeper clarification
of what Scripture is telling us in verse 2 of Genesis 1 with regards to "how" God created the earth by looking at Isaiah 45:18. Here we see that God in fact did NOT create the earth in vain, formless and void, but rather He created it ready to go, an Earth ready-made for population.

Isaiah 45:18
KJV:
For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.

Torah-online: For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens, He is God; that formed the earth and made it, He established it, He created it not a waste, He formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD, and there is none else.

Now at this point we could just say, well sure, that was His intentions, but before He got to the "to be inhabited" part He first made it without form and void. NO, He did not. Scripture emphatically states, that "He created it not in vain" period.
"He formed it to be inhabited:" It's just that plain & simple. He made the earth ready to be populated, NOT an empty place, not a void, nor a wasteland.)

This will become clear and make even more sense a bit further on in this reading.

A Fact - He created it "not in vain", we are taught He "created" it without form, and void"
We know from our word study that the meaning of the words "void", "vain" and "without form/unformed" all pretty much conclude the same thing.
Lets do a bit of a review.

The word "vain" when understood from the original manuscripts, in the Hebrew tongue, is the word to'-hoo, which means "to lie waste; a desolation (of surface), that is, desert;"

God's word states in Isaiah 45:18 that He did
not create the earth a desolation, a wasteland, however, through the traditions of man we have been taught, lead to believe and understand that He, God did created it "unformed, and void" - That makes no sense at all.

Rest assured that God is NOT the God of confusion. (1 Corinthians 14:33)
God did NOT "create" the earth unformed and void, and this is not what Genesis 1:2 is actually saying at all.

To comprehend God's word is to Rightly Divide that Word as God has instructed us to do. 2 Timothy 2:15
If we are students of God's Word and have read the book of Isaiah where God said He did NOT create the earth a desolation, a wasteland then why, in Geneses 1:2 would we "assume" that the earth was "without form and void" ?

With a deeper study of Scripture, we would not "assume" this however we might very well want to know how it came to be this way....

Let's clear up the mis-understanding/translation in Genesis 1:2 and in doing so well reveal yet another topic for a deeper study.....

I'm getting up there in age and
have talked with others even older than myself and a common, and accepted understanding is that God, in the beginning, created the earth and it was created without form and void. - We take this verse at face value and without even a hint of questioning it. The sad truth is most students of God's Word have their understandings of this verse and it is in-fact a "mis"understanding.

If one was to take that little English word, "was" back to the original language so-as-to discover it's actual meaning, one would not only solve a great misunderstanding about Genesis 1, verses 2 but gain a deeper awareness and understanding about God and His reasons for doing what He did.

Through a deeper study of these scripture and a new "understanding" of the facts one will discover why we are here in the flesh in the first place and not as God had intended, with Him, home, in heaven and in on natural state of being, Spirit.

I, like so many others, and for so long,
took Genesis 1:2 to mean just as it was written in the english Bible however when I learned the Truth, many questions about other passages of both the OT and NT were answered, so much more of God's word just started to make more sense, I felt in possession of new revelation.
I felt that I had gained a much better understanding and deeper meaning of God's word as a whole when I understood Genesis 1:2 as God meant it.

To sum up this "mis"understanding in ver :2
T
he clincher, Genesis chapter 1, verse 2.
When we take the word
"was" using the Strong's Concordance, we soon discover that the word "was" is in fact "became".
"was" (H1961) in the Hebrew tongue, hayah, pronounced haw-yaw, means to exist, that is, be or become, come to pass.
The fact is, the earth was NOT created void, it BECAME void and it's really just that simple. - Don't taken my word for it, prayerfully do your own Research. With a deeper study you will find overhhelming evidence supporting this fact.

Strong's Concordance word study on the word "was" in Genesis 1:2

A primitive root (compare H1933); to exist, that is, be or become, come to pass (always emphatic, and not a mere copula or auxiliary): - beacon, X  altogether, be (-come, accomplished, committed, like), break, cause, come (to pass), continue, do, faint, fall, + follow, happen, X have, last, pertain, quit  (one-) self, require, X use.

Now that we have the information on how the words were "intended" to be understood it sure puts new light on the actual reading of Genesis 1:2

So, with this new information, let's go back and re-read Genesis 1:2 with clarity & understanding, we know that this earth that God created was in fact NOT created void after all as we saw in Isaiah 45:18 but it "became" unformed, void, a waste.

God created the earth not void but that it became void, WHY?

A Hint: The Katabole, the overthrow, of a time so long ago when that Cherub Lucifer was cast out of heaven for his "freewill" deed of not guarding the mercy seat but wanting to claim it, to overthrow God Himself. That's for another study and you will find some of the answers to this and other questions within this on-line version of my Bible Studies and Research.

Some refer to this kind of understanding of Genesis 1:1 & 2 as a "Gap" theory, they claim this is a false theory/teaching. I challenged their claims with many, many hours, days, weeks, months of Research and conclude that it is they that do not have clear understanding but cling to the old traditions on men.
There are many that will swear that "their" understanding/belief is the correct one, them old traditions die hard.

My mind & heart has made it's choice, you must make your. The information provided here and within this site is but a fraction of what I have discovered, collected, researched, studied, and unlike most of the folks that have job's, families, commitments that take up much of their time & focus, all I have is time and I chose to spend much of it focused on Researching and studying God's Word, seeking truth, the "actual" Truth of our Father's word, not the traditions of men that have been taught throughout the ages. And really, did our Loving, Heavenly Father condem all of mankind for all of time because of an apple, think about that....

God makes clear in His word that not all that "read" His word will understand it. As it says in 2 Timothy 2:15 Authorized KJV
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Show ourselves approved.

For students of the Bible to build a strong, proper and correct understanding of God's word we need a good foundation. You can NOT have a good foundational understanding of the Word if you do not have, or even understand the very foundation of the Word itself, In the beginning, what other foundation is there?

I invite all to "do your research" study and know.

onto the adventure of Bible Studies & Research.
